The Comparison and Analysis of Voice in English Abstract in Chinese and Foreign Electric Power Papers

To study the voice distribution in English abstracts in domestic electricity papers, firstly, 200 English abstracts are randomly selected, with 100 from Chinese electric power papers and 100 from foreign electric power papers; secondly, the number of active voice sentences, passive voice sentences and non-voice sentences as well as each percentages are counted; finally, the two groups of data are compared and analyzed. The result shows that currently the foreign electric power paper is dominated by active structures, while Chinese electric power paper is dominated by passive structures. The reason of this result is then discussed and ways to avoid it are suggested.
