Research on an Evaluation Method of Mobile Communication Network Performance

The increase in the capacity of mobile communication networks requires a more deliberate network planning. Evaluating the network performance objectively and accurately is one of the most important problems in network planning and optimization. In this paper a method for evaluating GSM system performance based on BER estimates is proposed. The method, which is based on software simulation of transmission, channel, and receiving, takes into account the channel's fast fading characteristics, co channel interference, noise, and their effect on the performance. An application of this method in network planning system is illustrated at the end of the paper.
