Performance Analysis of MIMO System under Rayleigh Correlated Fading

A MIMO system with space-time block coding can combat fading and achieve diversity gains. The closed form solution for symbol error probability (SEP) of the system over Rayleigh correlated fading channel is derived, which shows that performance of the system is mainly determined by the eigenvalues and their multiplicities of the MIMO covariance matrix. Simulation results for 2 transmit and 2 receive indicate that the impact of transmit correlated only or reception correlated only on the performance is lower than that of both transmit and receive correlated at the same correlation coefficient.
