Research on Subnet Probing

The main purpose of network topology discovery is to detect the topology and key equipments of a network. Subnet probing technology is an important aspect and a difficult problem in this research project. This paper mainly discusses the technology of subnet probing. Firstly, it presents four methods of probing subnet partition. Then it describes two techniques of detecting subnet size and gives principles and implementions of these probing methods.Finally the paper summarizes their virtues and shortcomings, and suggests the work to be done in future.
