Comparison of approaches to data security implementation based on PHP

Several approaches based on PHP (hypertext preprocessor) under LAMP (Linux+ Apache+ Mysql+ PHP) platform for encrypting and decrypting files, which need to be downloaded, are discussed. Firstly, the PHP application and LAMP platform are mentioned. Secondly, the data encrypting methods, include default PHP encryption functions, PHP extensions/library packages, and using GnuPG (GNU Privacy Guard) in PHP, are studied and introduced. Sample codes are given while analysis, testing result and comparison of these solutions are presented. Lastly, how to choose the different encrypting method in various situations is discussed. Limitations of data encryption in PHP are indicated.
