Design of Zero-Copy RAID System

Zhihu Tan · Mini-micro Systems · 2005

Zero-copy RAID approach can avoid repeated data copying, multiple buffering of IO data, and other performance degrading anomalies, taking full use of scatterlist. This design can lower RAID CPU overhead, increase the throughput of RAID, and lead to higher cache hit rates. Experiments with RAIDs designed by Key Laboratory of Data Storage System, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, show performance improvements about 10% on real workloads.
