The Relationship between Copula, Focus, Emphasis and Comparison——The Function and Usage of Shi(是)

The copula Shi(是) has developed into the following 3 grammatical markers:focus, emphasis, and comparison. This paper addresses the internal conceptual relationship between the various uses and the applications. The different but related uses are determined by the quantity feature of the accompanying words and the number of variables in the construction, which can be represented by formulas.
