Distributed Morphology:A New Theory of Syntax/Morphology Interface
Hongbing Li · Jiefangjun Waiyu Xueyuan xuebao · 2006
Since its introduction in the early 1990s,Distributed Morphology has become one of the popular theories of the architecture of grammar.Contrary to Lexicalist Hypothesis,DM proposes that a single, rather than two, generative system is responsible for both word structure and phrase structure. It claims that all derivations of complex objects depend on the same syntactic principles, with only minimal modifications through morphological operations after the syntax proper.Besides a brief introduction to DM's theoretical concepts, its grammatical framework and morphological operations, this paper will conduct a contrastive analysis between LH and DM and point out DM's problems and its implications for the Chinese language study.
