IP Head Compression and Its Performance in WCDMA

Yin Yuan · Informatization Research · 2010

With the development of wireless communication techniques, there has been an ever-increasing demand for all kinds of data services, which makes the already limited spectrum a more scarce resource.IP head compression is a technique that leads to less bandwidth requirements by compressing the fixed and redundant part in IP packets. In this paper,we first elaborate the existing IP head compression algorithms(CRTP and ROCCO),and then compare their performance in the WCDMA system through simulations over the typical wireless channels.Simulation results show that ROCCO is more robust to transmission errors than CRTP.With the high compression rate,ROCCO dramatically decrease the probability of packet loss, and hence is a better choice for real-time service in wireless communications.
