The Features and Applications of FAT and NTFS File Systems

This article is about a research of operation system which can support two file systems including FAT16,and FAT32 in Windows98 operation system and three file systems including FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS in Windows2000/XP. This article discusses five questions as follows: (1)the notation of the file system;(2)basic file system (FAT16);(3)NTFS file system;(4)enhanced file system (FAT32);(5)the various techniques accessing NTFS-partition-data in DOS.
