Lan Xiao-yan · 2005

Cross-examination is an important witness questioning system in An g lo-American litigation. For lawyers who undertake the cross examination, applic ation of strategy is an effective way to elicit desirable testimony. This paper attempts to study strategy in cross-examination from the perspective of pragmat ic presupposition, holding that employment of presupposition triggers is an effe ctive strategy for lawyers undertaking the examination. Application of presuppos ition strategy has substantial positive effects; nevertheless, the potential neg ative effects of it should never be neglected.
