As the emerging of high performance digital signal processing devices such as digital signal processor(DSP) and field programmable gate array(FPGA), the software defined radio(SDR) based Digital IF technology has been widely used in 3G basestations recently.Based on the analysis of the principle and structure of Digital IF module, this paper carries out the optimum design of the digital up converter(DUC) for WCDMA basestations, and presents a three-stage scheme.Simulation results indicate that, the three-stage scheme has a 4 dB system performance improvement compared with the single stage scheme.Furthermore, the three-stage scheme lowers the requirements for the DSP operation speed more than ten times, which is suitable for hardware implementation.
