Jinshu Su · 2009
Group communication is a key technique for the future Internet applications.Nowadays,Application Layer Multicast(ALM) is an active research area in group communication technology, and Proxy-based ALM architecture is becoming one of the most important research directions in multicast architectures.Firstly, the three kinds of multicast architectures,i.e.,IP multicast,Host-based ALM and Proxy-based ALM were surveyed and compared.Secondly, the six kinds of start-of-art Proxy-based ALM architectures, which are Overcast,RMX,AMcast/ALMI,Scattercast,OMNI and TOMA,were presented and analyzed.Thirdly, three basic design considerations for Proxy-based ALM architecture were summarized and some issues for the future Proxy-based ALM architecture, which are worth attention, were discussed. In the end,the prospect and the future work were discussed.
