QoS-based Adaptive Spectra Allocation Strategy for Cognitive Radio Networks

Cuiran Li, Zhao Jiaying · Journal of the China Railway Society · 2010

The average throughput and interference performance of cognitive radio networks are evaluated.Considering that cognitive radio networks are expected to provide multimedia transmission services including speeches, data, videos and images etc and different services have different quality-of-service(QoS) requirements, the paper introduces a QoS level evaluation model based on the multi-factor multi level fuzzy decision policy. The paper gives the method to divide the idle licensed spectra to be used by cognitive users and proposes an adaptive spectra allocation strategy for active cognitive users. The paper analyzes the throughput and interference performance of cognitive radio networks in the selective frequency fading environment.Simulation results show that the QoS-based adaptive spectra allocation strategy outperforms some existing spectra allocation algorithms in term of the average throughput and interference performance and it maintains low complexity in implementation.
