RESEARCH ON THE TOOLS EXPRESSED BY DIAGRAMS IN SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT

The purpose is to seek a programming method which is more efficient than the high level programming languages (HL) that we are using now, and to lessen the software crisis. Many diagram tools have been used to express softwares in some fields. 'Some interactive programming environments can be used to produce program codes automatically. But the final software products are still program codes expressed by HL. They suffer from the defect that the HL codes are poor in readability and makes software maintenance difficult. In this paper we have discussed a method to express programs by diagrams and to recognize the meaning of the diagrams by computers. To express a program by diagrams is direct and imaginable. It is better in readability and maintainability to express a program by diagrams instead of texts. Diagrams will promote the rate of software production. We have partly finished the structured diagram experiment in editor and compiler. A program expressed by diagrams can be translated into C language progrom automatically.
