A Hot-Zone reorganization mechanism is designed to improve the I/O performance of storage devices.Based on the characteristic of I/O workload, the blocks accessed frequently are called hot-zone in storage device, and all hot-zone of a storage device is moved to an adjacent region. The mechanism performs automatic hot-zone reorganization to reduce seeking time of storage device and to improve disk I/O performance.Furthermore, the mechanism is transparent to applications and file systems.Compared with similar mechanism,Hot-Zone reorganization mechanism is simple and storage space saved. These experiments comprehensively demonstrate Hot-Zone reorganization mechanism's effectiveness in improving I/O performance.
