On Zarlino's Contributions to Tonal Harmony Theory

On the basis of an inquiry into the intrinsic links between Zarlino's harmony concept and tonal harmony theory,this article briefly summarizes Zarlino's contributions to the formation of modern tonal harmony theory from the four perspectives respectively,including chord structure,tone mode classification,bass theory and aesthetic value of dissonant harmony.
