A New Coverage Enhancement Algorithm for Directional Sensor Networks

For deficiencies of existing coverage enhancement methods of directional sensor networks such as notably computational complexity and low coverage ratio,a new coverage enhancement algorithm for directional sensor networks is proposed in this paper.The node and its coverage direction with the maximum coverage area are deployed every time until all the nodes are processed.The coverage ratio can be enhanced for low overlapping regions.At the same time,the sensor redundant node dormancy is considered.The dormancy nodes are woken before the surrounded nodes are redeployed when nodes fail in a timely manner.Thus the coverage ratio is increased and the network lifetime is prolonged.Experiment results show that the coverage ratio of the proposed method increased by 20% and 15% for the same nodes numbers and sensor radius.
