Study of Adaptive Mode Selection Method for Intra-Prediction

The intra coding efficiency has been improved greatly because of the intra-prediction method in H.264,and the method increased the complicity of coding yet.An adaptive fast mode selection method is proposed after analyzing the computationally expensive part and previous works.The fast method is mainly based on adaptive threshold for the most probable mode and selective computation of other prediction modes.The simulation results show that without considerable performance degradation,the proposed method saves the computing costs greatly.And the method supports SIMD instructions well,so it’s very useful for assembly optimization in applications.
