The application of oppositeness in translation

Oppositeness is a common and very natural phenomenon in languages and the frequency of the cooccurrences of lexical opposites in natural languages is extremely high. The study of oppositeness can give us highlights on the treatment of translation, i.e. it can be used as an important context clue and provide the translator with valuable input in the decision-making process involved in resolving those ambiguity-related translation problems caused by polysemous words.
