Performance Evaluation on the Capability of RFID Based Library Self-Service System——Taking the Library of Hubei Institute for Nationalities as an Example

To explore the service of RFID based library self-service system, this paper compares performances of the barcode recognition mode( BRM) with the RFID technology in library of Hubei Institute for Nationalities, from which the definition and calculation method of the RFID performance value( RFID-PV) is deduced. Results show, of the secondary performance evaluation metrics, RFID is doing better than BRM in opening time horizon, circulation rate and user friendly circulation service; but is less satisfactory in reader assistance and training, damaged books discovery and so on. It is suggested that we should pay attention to the usage and statistics of RFID so as to find out the important factors of RFID and make full advantages of its performances.
