A Contrastive Study of Multiple-choice Word List and Ordinary Word List

Lou He-ying · Journal of Zhejiang University of Technology · 2009

This essay illustrates the importance of vocabulary learning and introduces a multiple- choice word list (MCWL). Then an empirical research is conducted concerning the effect of two types of word lists, MCWL and the ordinary list (OWL) on vocabulary acquisition. The results obtained show that both for the short- term memory and long term memory, MCWL is more effective than the OWL. The results of this study can be explained by the Involvement Load Hypothesis and the Depth and Elaboration of Processing Theory.
