Mechanism of type 2 diabetes mellitus incidence decreased through inhibition of renin-angiotensin system

The activation of renin-angiotensin system(RAS) can result in hemodynamic changes,cell apoptosis,fibrosis aggravation,various gene expression aberration,inflammatory reaction and oxidative stress.It impairs the islet morpha and function even causes insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus.Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors(ACEI) and angiotensin Ⅱ receptor blockers(ARB) could improve the function of islet cells and insulin resistance.This review briefly describes the mechanism of type 2 diabetes mellitus incidence decreased through inhibition of RAS.
