Design of Quantizer and Entropy Encoder Based on MPEG-2Standard

Quantization and Entropy Encoding are two important data compression techniques of MPEG-2 video coding system. In this paper, the function and realization of quantizer and entropy encoder, which are parts of the MPEG-2 encoder, are discussed in detail based on analyzing the coding process of MPEG-2 standard, following is the architecture design of four modules which are quantizer, zscanner, run-length-coder, variable-length-coder, finally the result of tsimulation and test of the design are given.
