A Preliminary Study on GIS Security

With the combination of Internet and GIS,the security of GIS becomes an increasingly pressing problem.After defining the meaning and context of GIS security,this paper firstly presents a hierarchy of GIS security from the established GIS system architecture and analyzes the potential security problems within each layer,such as the hardware,the operation system,the communication protocols,the database system,the GIS platform and the operator.Based on those analyses,the potential general and up-to-date security strategies for GIS systems are brought forward,including both technical security strategies and management security strategies.
