The existing researches of image fusion most focus on theory. The universal and real time fusion system is presented rarely. A general purpose scheme of real time image registration and fusion system based on VME bus and parallel computer architecture is given. The kernel component is real time operation system of standard bus. DSP is served as the CPU to perform registration and fusion parallel. FPGA is designed to control VME bus and video synchronization. The architecture has characteristics of strong computational capability, broad I/O bandwidth, and expansibility. The result of experiments indicate that this system works perfectly.
