Effect and Calibration of Beam Angle Offset in Multibeam Sounding Systems

Dong Qinglian · Hydrographic Surveying and Charting · 2014

The beam angle offset is one of the factors that influences the measurement accuracy of the multibeam sounding system, and the severe cases can cause the measured submarice topography to form concave-envex pseudo terrain. The paper discusses the reason of beam angle offset and the influence to the measurement accuracy of the multibeam sounding system, and introduces the method that uses Roll-offset calibration software of EM series multibeam sounding systems to calibrate the beam angle offset. Through actual applications, the method nicely corrects beam angle offset, and raises the accuracy of the data measuring.
