From logic to language:An interview with Professor Barbara Hall Partee
Zou Chongl · Suvremena lingvistika · 2007
This text is a record of ZOU Chongli's interview with Professor Partee. The focus of the interview is on those relationships between formal semantics and Chomskyan syntactic theory, between language and logic, and the extension of formal semantics into the field of pragmatics.Partee's main viewpoints are as follows:Montague grammar is the extension of Chomskyan syntactic theory, and his formal semantics also needs to learn from Chomskyan transformational grammar in syntax and language acquisition.Formal semantics uses logical and algebraic methods studying natural language with multiple modes. That formal semantics extends into formal pragmatics is one of the important current developments.
