A Review on Domestic and International Researches on LFG

Wei Ai-yu · Journal of Guangxi Normal University · 2014

Derived from Transformative Generative Grammar,Lexical Functional Grammar(LFG) falls into the category of generative grammar. It realizes linguistic expressions through the unified rule-computation of its constituent structure and functional structure, but it considers language as only one layer, with the view that the transference from the constituent structure to its functional structure is a kind of projection but not transformation as the original transformative generative grammar and it emphasizes centrality and completeness of lexicon and the entireness of the functional structure. With its special notions and syntactic structure,LFG has been applied considerably in some fields, especially in computational linguistics, while like other linguistic theories that have developed from the early stages of transformative generative grammar,it has its own unadjustable and unsolvab.le limitations, thus hindering the research in the field from wide spreading.
