Objective To discuss the effect of atorvastatin on controlling the blood pressure of elderly patients with mild hypertension controlled by drug therapy. Methods Four hundred patients with mild hypertension controlled by drug therapy in our hospital were randomly divided into group A(with atheromatous plaque by B-ultrosound)and group B(without atheromatous plaque by B-ultrosound),200 for each.Atorvastatin was only given to group,A 20 mg/d,and blood pressure was detected every month for both groups.Clinical effects were evaluated, major adverse cardiac events were recorded after 2-year follow-up and the changes of blood pressure was observed for both groups. Results Clinical effects and major adverse cardiac events showed no significant difference between two groups, whereas the blood pressure decreased evidently in 2 years than in 9 weeks in both groups.Systolic blood pressure(SBP)and diastolic blood pressure(DBP)in group A were remarkably lower than in group B,and they reduced more obviously in group A.Additionally, blood pressure was better controlled in group A with better average anti-hypertensive effect. Conclusion Atorvastatin can make hypertension more stable, and it iseasy to be controlled, deserving to be widely promoted in clinic.
