Objectives To explore the effects and safety of valsartan combined with benazepril on reversing left ventricular hypertrophy(LVH) caused by essential hypertension(EH) and ameliorating the function of left ventricle. Methods 78 cases were divided into two groups randomly, group A was treated with valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide, group B was treated with valsartan and benazepril. The period of treatment was 6 mouths. The following detections were examined before and after treatment: Left ventricular diameter in diastasis (LVDd), interventricular septal thickness (IVST), left ventricular posterior wall thickness (LVPWT), left ventricular mass index (LVMI), isovolumic relaxation time(IRT), Ep/Ap and blood pressure(BP), left ventricular function in diastolic phage were measured by doppler echocardiography. Results The differences of BP, LVDd, IVST, LVPWT, Ep/Ap and IRT of group A and B between pre-treatment and post-treatment were significance (P0.05 or P0.01). The differences of change of Ep/Ap and IRT between group A and group B were significance (P0.05). Conclusion Valsartan Combined with benazepril can reverse LVH caused by EH and improve left ventricular function in diastolic phage in safety. ,
