Deep Linguistic Processing of Pivotal Construction:From Linguistic Design to Implementation

Chunlei Yang · Waiguoyu · 2013

From the perspective of deep linguistic processing, this paper presents an ontological study and a tentative computational implementation of Chinese pivotal constructions. From the ontological aspect, syntactic and semantic features are derived from the results of various constituency tests applied in natural language resources, based on which a sense-based other than orthographical principle of VP1 processing is decided. Moreover, control theory is introduced to describe pivotal constructions within HPSG framework. With respect to implementation,in accordance with the processing principle and syntactic description mechanism, lexicon is built and syntactic feature structures described with TDL(Type Description Language). Finally, pivotal constructions are parsed with LKB(Linguistic Knowledge Building) on the platform of ManGO(Mandarin Grammar Online).
