A Comparative Research on Operating System Kernel
Wang Hang-jun · Journal of Huzhou Teachers College · 2005
This paper introduces the three main popular kernel structures in current operating systems: monokernel, microkernel and modular kernel and compares with their respective advantages and disadvantages. It also considers the future of operating system structures through the introduction of two new operating systems: dynamic extensible operating system and virtual address filebased operating system. It finally points out that the new operating system structure will surely break through the old concept of resource sharing in traditional operating system and create a new strucure more propitious to resource sharing.
