Scalability and Broadband services are the most important characteristics of the next generation Internet. And these constitue more rigid demands for network routers. This paper proposes a high-speed routing mechanism based on IP source routing protocol SR-HRP(Source Routing-High Router Protocol).Different from the traditional source routing protocol, the source node is used to discover and maintain the effective path to the goal node, and the transmission packets provide accurate forward information for the router. Thus the router could avoid the consumption of time and resources in searching a huge routing table. The simulation results show that SR-HRP is able to improve the efficiency of network transmission at less expense.
