Combination of Cognitive Radio and WLAN

With the rapid development of Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), the valid spectrum resources are becoming more and more limited over time. With the ability of dynamically reusing the idle spectrum resources and improving the efficiency of spectrum usage, Cognitive Radio (CR) has been paid many attentions. The combination of CR technology and WLAN will provide more flexible communications and extend the valid frequency bands for WLAN. The layout of new WLAN standard IEEE 802.11y will further drive the application of CR. During the combination process, some crucial technologies should be improved, involving spectrum sensing, spectrum resource sharing and allocation, dynamic frequency selection and transmit power control technology.
