Run-length-limited codes for optical storage system
Hu Heng · Optical Technique · 2006
Run-length-limited(RLL) codes have been used in most optical(magnetic) data storage systems.RLL codes transform arbitrary user data to channel bits satisfying certain channel constraints, which can improve the efficiency and reliability of data transmission. The basic theory of RLL codes was introduced, and the models of finite-state coding and sliding-block decoding were analyzed. Then the main construction methods for RLL codes were summarized. The future development trends of RLL codes were discussed.
