Objective To build a liver virtual surgery evaluation system based on SPECT images. Methods The system was developed under VC++ programming environment with the help of MITK,and the clipping surface was made using the control points on the three-dimensional rendering of the SPECT images of the liver. Results This research focused on the clipping algorithm on the basis of three-dimensional surface rendering, and achieved arbitrary clipping which made the virtual surgery more accurate, only using traditional two-dimensional input and output devices. With this innovative method, liver function could be calculated after the virtual surgery. Conclusion The results demonstrate that this system is possible to be applied not only in liver SPECT virtual surgery, but also in liver function evaluation before surgery, therefore reduces surgery risk.
