To improve the resolution of temporal correlated sources and the performance of direction finding in spatial correlated noise fields,a novel direction-of-arrival(DOA) estimation method based on joint block-diagonalization(JBD) of spatio-temporal correlation matrices is put forward. Both the spatial and temporal second order statistics were synthesized, and the Jacobi rotation matrices techniques were used to approximately diagonalize a set of spatio-temporal matrices. Then the minimum variance distortionless response(MVDR) spatial spectrum was modified by the result of JBD.Theoretical and simulation results show that the resolution capability can be improved effectively by this method both in uncorrelated and correlated noise fields.Furthermore, the signal-to-noise-ratio(SNR) threshold of DOA estimate is reduced, and the estimation variance is close to the Cramer-Rao bound(CRB).
