Coloured Petri Net (CPN) is a powerful tool for describing and analyzing parallel systems. In recent years 籆PN has found many applications in Mechanical Manufacturing Systems (MMS). Because of the characteristic of MMS,there are many zero elements in correlation matrix for expressing CPN construction, resulting in drawbacks of large data space by CPN, so it is difficult to analyse and study planning design and production scheduling for complicated MMS.Based on the basic principle of CPN, this paper puts forward an extended coloured Petri net theory suitable for modelling MMS to solve the problem that CPN requires large data space,so that a theoretical basis may be supplied for the wide application of Petri net theory to model MMS. Finally,an example is given to show the result of decreasing data space.
