Active contour model based on global and local fitting

In the existing active contour models, both Piecewise Constan(tPC) model and Region-Scalable Fitting(RSF) model are two of the popular region-based models.PC model is much less sensitive to the initialization of the contours and noise;however,it cannot handle images with intensity inhomogeneity.RSF model is able to deal with intensity inhomogeneity; however,it is sensitive to initialization and noise.Based on PC and RSF models, this paper proposes a novel region-based active contour model in a Partial Differential Equation(PDE) formulation. This model can address the segmentation of images with intensity inhomogeneity, while it allows for flexible initialization of the contours and is significantly less sensitive to noise.
