Study on Function of Line Surge Arrester at Line Lightning Protection

In order to study the function of line surge arrester at line lightning protection,equivalent circuit of line surge operation had been built considering conditions of straight lightning strike on tower top and round strike to conductor.The equation for calculation lightning current shunting of line surge arrester was deducted taking consideration of effect of its discharge voltage.The result of calculation shows that the line suge arrester can share ≮10% lightning surge current to shield conductor when it operates due to straight lightning strike on tower top 70% current to tower and to shield conductor of two adjacent tower when the arrester operates due to round strike to conductor.
