The Relational Structure of the Semantic Network and Semantic Retrieval
LU Xun-lin · Journal of Jiangsu Polytechnic University · 2009
The semantic network is a system of knowledge representation simulating the memory.Concepts in the memory are connected through relational structures: hierarchical structure, thematic categorization, coordination, etc. In the spreading semantic network, semantic retrieval starts by activating a concept and activation spreads in all directions in parallel, with serial activation in some particular directions. The relational structures affect semantic retrieval.Semantic relations serve mainly as primes which narrow down the scope of searching and quicken the retrieval of the target.
