A New Sounding Annotation Representation Method for Paper Nautical Charts
Peng Ren-ca · Hydrographic Surveying and Charting · 2014
For sounding data acquired in multibeam bathymetric surveys and other traditional bathymetric surveys( such as singlebeam bathymetric surveys) will chronically coexist, after having analysed the deficiency of current sounding annotation representation of paper nautical charts, the paper has advanced a newsounding annotation representation method based on character color extension, namely, sounding data acquired in multibeam bathymetric surveys is represented in green, sounding data acquired in singlebeam and other traditional bathymetric surveys is represented in black. Primary analysis shows that the newsounding annotation representation method is simple and easy to handle, which efficiently represents the two different sounding data sources of remarkable quality contrast, and rather suitable for voyagers' requirement for cognizing, rebuilding and utilizing submarine terrain information through sounding annotation on paper nautical charts intuitively and precisely.
