Image retrieval algorithm based on Canny edge detection operator

Aiming at the defects existing in the edge-based image retrieval system which is mainly dependent on the tradi-tional Canny operator,a new image retrieval algorithm using improved Canny edge operator is proposed.The image edge feature is extracted by the improved Canny operator,meanwhile,the feature is converted into vector by Fourier descrip-tions,then the retrieval is performed according to the Manhanttan distance of vertors.Experimental results show that the improved Canny operator detects the low-intensity edge and maintains the edge clear and coherent,and the algorithm is ef-fective.
