SNR estimation scheme and its application in Doppler shift estimation in mobile communication systems

An average SNR estimation method based on mobile channel power spectrum analysis was proposed here. It could be implemented with FFT to reduce operations effectively. In addition, an improved estimation method base on SNR estimation was proposed according to the theoretical bias of Doppler shift estimator. We verified the proposed algorithms by Monte Carlo computer simulation, the accurate results of the SNR estimator is found in the working SNR range for most communication system, and the high estimation accuracy in wide ranges of velocities and SNRs is observed from the results of the improved Doppler shift estimator.
