Design and Performance Analysis on Optimum Quantization Based on the Source Statistical Characteristics

In the quantizing process of analogue sources, if the probability density function of the signalamplitude at the input to the quantizer is known, then how to optimize the quantizer with scalar quantization to minimize the distortion is studied. Based on the theory of the design of the optimum quantizer , the gaussian-distributed sources are optimized with scalar quantization to obtain the performance curves of gaussian source. Compared with the lower bounds that are defined by the theorem of Shanhon Rate distortion, the analytic methods and results drawn from this article is, to some extent, valuable to some quantization engineering.
