Nitrogen Contamination of Groundwater Originated from Urban Landfill Leachate

Xia Li · 2001

Nitrogen contamination of landfill on groundwater has been monitored and evaluated by an analysis of characteristics of landfill leachate and an assessment of the potential effects of nitrogen contamination on groundwater. The results showed that there were large amounts of ammonia-nitrogen in landfill leachate and the contamination of ammonia-nitrogen was the major form of pollution in groundwater of landfill. It has been also found that nitrogen contamination of groundwater was correlated well with the amounts and concentrations of ammonia in landfill leachate.
