Cognitive users can dynamically sense and utilize the spectrum of primary users in cognitive radio networks. In case of primary users, cognitive users have to release the occupied spectrum, thus giving rise to spectrum handoff which can increase delays of cognitive networks and can reduce link maintenance probability and transfer rate.Spectrum handoff schemes and their mathematical models were examined in this paper. The computer simulation results show that the dynamic spectrum access scheme with outband sensing can effectively reduce handoff delays and can improve cognitive users' transfer rate.
