MANET-based Peer-to-Peer SIP Architecture

Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is currently a hot topic in the field of network communications. However, the previous MANET research focuses on the physical layer, Media Access Control (MAC) and routing, and concerns little about delivering multimedia communications services. It is necessary to change the existing communications architecture for offering high-quality multimedia communication services by MANET. Therefore, the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is used for building an application-layer Peer-to-Peer (P2P) network in MANET to fulfill multimedia communications. This article proposes a new MANET-based P2P networking model MAP, and a MAP-based SIP networking architecture MASIP. MASIP can be compatible with existing SIP facilities, and offer both traditional SIP and MASIP P2P services. Moreover, it takes MANET's own features into full consideration, and avoids the defects caused by direct use of SIP or other P2P architecture. Therefore, MASIP can provide flexible communications services at any time and anywhere.
