Information processing is increasingly becoming one of the most important topics in the development of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), which has been benefiting from the new developments in information technology, such as information collection, fusion, organization, and management. The biological information technology has become a new research area which can be useful in the information processing for ITS. In order to verify the existence of biological heredity in urban traffic information, a similarity coefficient and a fluctuation coefficient were defined as criteria to analyze urban traffic volumes with experiments in this study. Results of the analysis proved the existence of similarity for these volumes. This paper also proposed several possible applications of the similarity attribute of traffic data in the ITS information processing.
